Project Financial Analyst

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The Project Financial Analyst provides financial and operational support to project teams, account teams, the Project Control team, and Finance throughout the project lifecycle. This role is responsible for administering project financial processes, maintaining the integrity of project financial data, preparing billing and revenue support, and ensuring project information is accurate, complete, and timely across company systems.

The Project Financial Analyst plays an integral role in supporting project financial operations, enabling informed decision-making, and driving consistency across project administration, reporting, billing, and financial controls. While Project Managers retain ownership and accountability for the financial performance and commercial success of their projects, the Project Financial Analyst supports the Project Control function by helping maintain the financial management framework, processes, and data integrity that enable effective project oversight and decision-making. Success in this role requires strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
 
  • Project Administration, Reporting, Billing & Revenue Support
    • Administer project setup activities and maintain contract, budget, and supporting documentation required for project administration, financial management, and operational execution.
    • Maintain accurate project records, budgets, schedules, and financial information throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring information remains current, complete, and consistent across company systems.
    • Review project financial data for completeness, accuracy, and readiness for billing and revenue recognition; investigate discrepancies and coordinate resolution with project teams and Finance.
    • Prepare recurring project reports, forecast support schedules, backlog analysis, and other reporting used to support project performance monitoring and business decision-making.
    • Execute assigned month-end financial activities, including reconciliations, reporting support, and financial data validation.
    • Prepare invoice support documentation, billing packages, and other client billing deliverables in accordance with contractual requirements and company procedures.
    • Manage billing schedules, milestones, and invoicing requirements while coordinating with project teams and Finance to obtain and validate information necessary for timely billing.
    • Maintain accurate billing records, supporting documentation, and audit trails in accordance with company policies.
 
  • Data Management, Process Integrity & Operational Support
    • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality-control reviews to ensure the accuracy and integrity of project financial information.
    • Promote consistency in project financial data, reporting, and operational processes by following and reinforcing established standards, procedures, and financial controls.
    • Identify, investigate, and communicate data quality issues, process gaps, risks, and control exceptions, coordinating resolution with project teams and Finance as appropriate.
    • Document, maintain, and continuously improve project financial procedures while participating in approved process developments and system enhancements.
    • Coordinate financial information requests, support audit activities, and assist with documentation required by project teams, Finance, and other stakeholders.
    • Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve the efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and effectiveness of project financial operations.

Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years previous experience in a similar role, or with demonstrated aptitude/ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office programs, especially Excel
  • Experience using ERP systems such as MS Dynamics SL, Quick Books, Great Plains, Oracle, SAP
  • Experience utilizing CRM software such as Dynamics 365, Sales Force, etc.
  • Knowledge of the banking, retail, manufacturing and construction industry a plus
  • Project and program management experience is a plus
